Campus People Watchers

The Campus People Watchers staked out the Pipe Smoker’s Guild. The group meets off campus at Stogies on Grand on Grand Avenue in St.Paul. It’s about twelve miles away from campus. However, the group does car pool to the cigar lounge if you can’t arrive yourself. Before arriving at the lounge we watchers made guesses as to what the members of the Pipe Smoker’s guild would look like. We guessed they’d be either elitist conservatives, or flannel wearing hipsters. But we ended up being completely wrong. The currently group was comprised of two anarchists, a communist, a libertarian, one med student, and we were told two members were missing. We had plenty of stimulating conversations with their members while we learned how to smoke pipe tobacco. The Guild was quite accommodating to our newness to pipe smoking.  The group has several long term goals that include reintroduction of smoking in building, and making pipe smoking mandatory.

Recommendation: if you are a pipe smoker, and enjoy intellectual conversations this group might be right up your alley. Yet, one of their members actually was a non-smoker and only enjoyed the intellectual conversation. Plus we surmise it’s not necessary to have an intellectual conversation. So if you like pipe smoking, and/or intellectual conversations this group is probably for you.
